Buy iPod Accessories…Which Ones?

Buy iPod accessories. It’s a suggestion.

Who’s suggesting it? Advertisers? Yes. Your kids, pleading and hinting? Yes. But it’s also that little voice in your head, right? A murmur in dreams at night…

Buy iPod accessories. It’s going to happen. The only question–and it’s a recurring one–is: which ones?

Some days maybe it’s just a new case for your iPod. But sometimes you want a bigger ticket item, something really special. A minor investment.

Here’s a suggestion. Who’s making it? Me.

I adore my iPod like every other person in the known world who has one. The only problem I have is that I like it so much, it makes me anti-social. So the iPod accessory I’ve got my eye on is the Acoustic Research AR5100 Speaker System. You know, so that I can enjoy my playlists with my whole family.

Why do I want to dock my iPod in this particular speaker system?

Acoustic Research is one of the most respected names in sound reproduction and has been for nearly a hundred years. Today the AR means sophisticated electronics and high end speaker technology. The iPod Docking solution lets me enjoy audio and even video or photos from my iPod with superb audio quality, convenient portability and extended functionality… So today, this is the one for me.

Accessories For iPhone Come In Crazy Shapes, Make Waiting For Trains Bearable

As I look back over the first half of 2010 and (wincing, with one eye closed and one on the ledger), review my finances, I have to say that my iPhone was the year’s investment I’m most thoroughly delighted by.

Before my iPhone, I was spending nearly just as much on a monthly plan for a much crappier phone, with limited texting and no internet usage. Why? Because I was afraid to take the leap. But then I did it. I climbed to the top of the high rock and leaped. Then I swam around, blissed out, for a while, checking my email any old time, texting to my heart’s content. Then I started shopping. Hello accessories for iPhone!

And now, my poor wallet! All I want to do is buy accessories for iPhone these days. (Is my wallet feeling overextended or left out?)

Lately when I buy accessories for iPhone, I’m ape for apps. Camera apps, recipe apps, map apps, games! Especially games!

iPhone games make waiting for the subway a million times more tolerable. I’ve discovered this super fun game called Crazy Shapes. You should buy it for yourself (the great thing about the accessories for iPhone known as apps is they’re generally just $.99 a pop), but I’ll give you this hint: circus Alaska.

Circus Alaska. Am I right, or am I right?

The Bluetooth Microphone Dental Insert

A new Bluetooth accessory has been revealed. It’s the Bluetooth Microphone Dental Insert. It utilizes nano electons to, according to distributor Chinavision, “pick up sound and vibrations from your mouth to produce incredibly clear sound.”

Considering it will actually be located IN YOUR MOUTH, I think the possibility of the sound being TOO clear is a very real threat.

As someone who had to wear braces for a year and a half followed by six-months of a retainer, I’m not sure I could handle attaching anything more to my teeth. Not to mention the Bluetooth Microphone Dental Insert looks like you’ve got a piece of Oreo Cookie stuff in your teeth.

I know that asking “What’s next?” when it comes to technological advances might seem silly and over-used, but I mean… what’s next? Accessories for GPS that go in your hand? Wireless cell phone accessories that attach to your tongue?

A recent episode of the new Comedy Central version of Futurama depicted an iPhone parody called the “Eyephone,” a multi-purpose communications device that was installed directly into a user’s eyelid. It’s intended for comical purposes, and the episode is definitely worth viewing. But Futurama takes place past the year 3000. At this rate, it’s not going to take that long.

The Three Levels of Corporate Membership in the Bluetooth Special Interest Group

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group describes itself as “a privately held, not-for-profit trade association.” Although they do not manufacture or sell any products, they do oversee the development of all Bluetooth accessories and technologies.

Currently, the Bluetooth SIG has over 13,000 companies. Any organizations that incorporate Bluetooth wireless technology into the items they sell are required to be members of the SIG. Even a tiny tech company simply re-branding a wireless cell phone accessory that has Bluetooth technology is required to be a member.

While Universities are currently being accepted for membership, the person who applies must have the ability to accept any and all membership agreements and requirements on behalf of the school. However, the majority of the Bluetooth SIG members are part of the “corporate membership.”

Currently, the Bluetooth SIG has three levels of corporate membership.

Promoter Members

The top level of membership, the promoters are key to the development of Bluetooth wireless technology. They also obtain representation on the SIG Board of Directors, receiving a vote for the Qualification Review Board. Some of the promoter members of the Bluetooth SIG include Ericsson Technology Licensing (the founder of Bluetooth technology), Intel, Lenovo, Microsoft, Motorola, Nokia, and Toshiba.

Associate Members

Similar to promoter membership, associate members receive the privilege of reviewing specifications to Bluetooth accessories before their available to the public.  Additionally, they may participate in SIG working committees, which gives them the opportunity to improve current products.

Associate members are also entitled to marketing support, product discounts, and free submittal into SIG sponsored events.

Adopter Members

Adopter Membership is free, and allows for the use of produced Bluetooth wireless tech, as well as trademarks and logos, though this type of membership offers no influence on Bluetooth policy.

So Your Sister Wants To Buy Digital Picture Frames?

Your sister wants you to chip in for your mother’s birthday. She says they’re gonna buy digital picture frames to give to her so she can see all of your smiling faces at once. Sounds great, you say. Only one problem: you’ve got no idea what a digital picture frame is.

Well good thing you’ve got us. A digital picture frame (often referred to as a “digital photo frame” or “digital media frame” looks similar to a typical picture frame, except it projects a slideshow of photos on an LCD screen. They’re typically between seven and twenty inches in size. Some can carry text files, while others even play movie clips that have been recorded as MPEG files.

It’s like having hundreds of different pictures on display all at once, only taking up a lot less space and without the sensory-overload.

If you’re thinking about buying digital picture frames, we recommend our personal favorite, the IMPECCA DFM1040 Digital Photo Frame. Featuring a whole gig of internal memory, as well as Bluetooth technology, this digitial picture frame offers crisp and clear images. You can view your photos easily by inserting a discount memory card or USB, view the photos as single shots, thumbnails, or slide show form, and even listen to background music.

Weird iPod Accessories

Here at the EmallGroupBog, we’ve shown you some of our favorite iPod Accessories. But the truth is, not all iPod accessories are created equal. So if you are looking to buy ipod accessories, here’s a look at some of the more…. well, let’s just call them “different” products available that we wouldn’t exactly recommend.

The Wurlitzer iPod Jukebox

So…. What? You like the convenience of having 40 gigs worth of music in the palm of your hand, but you want to have the music come out of speakers that make you reminiscent of your days with Danny Zuko and the T-Birds?

On top of a built-in iPod dock, the Jukebox has a Bose Acoustimass Sound System and a 100 CD Changer. The sound quality is great, and you could literally listen to a different song every second straight for the next 50 years… precisely the amount of time that has passed since jukebox’s were actually cool.

Hey, if you want to buy iPod accessories that bring you to your retro roots, than go for it. But what really deters us is the price. The Wurlitzer iPod Jukebox is typically around $9,000.

The iPod Nano Thong Case

Totally not what we thought it was when we first read the name.

The iPod Nano Thong Case is a case for your mp3 device that resembles a thong (as opposed to a thong that holds your iPod Nano, which was our assumption).

The Thong Case is cute, and good for a chuckle. Unfortunately, as a cover it’s a complete disaster, as its design covers the click-wheel and does little in the way of protection.

However, if you were looking to buy ipod accessories that doubled as undies…

The iBoxers

We’re not sure if its tragic or fantastic, but quite a few companies have come out with similar versions of the iBoxers, cotton or spandex (or a blend) boxer-briefs with a small front pocket that fits your iPod perfectly.

It’s not exactly an iThong, but it’s a start.

Swype Away!

A new phone technology called Swype aims to change the way people type on cell phones. As keyboards are becoming more touch friendly, the creator of the T9 text application is pulling out a new model.

Like T9, Swype limits the movements a finger must make in order to increase phone input capacity. It guesses which word is being spelled through the patterns and pauses a finger makes. Spacing and punctuation is automatic, while capitalization and double letters are registered with a momentary pause or slight movement. They also, like Google, eventually plan to unveil a new voice recognition feature that will allow people to communicate more efficiently.

Although Swype doesn’t yet have a contract with Apple, it plans to use these accessories for iPhone to release soon.  Seven phones already have the application and more will continue to add it through the summer.

This new technology is part of the trend towards computerizing cell phones. While accessories for iPhone and wireless cell phone accessories continue to multiply, there is an ever increasing amount of new technology.  All this is great news for consumers, who can’t get enough of the latest, and most time reducing tools, so visit www.EMallGroup.com to see what’s hip.

Why Multitasking Can Hurt

In our internet heavy age, there are ways to stay connected when away from work, in the wild, and at home. Consuming media on our smartphones and tablet computers is becoming increasingly commonplace, but many are asking at what cost?

Reactions to quick informational bursts are an evolutionary response that allowed our ancestors to react to threats and dangers. In these situations, dopamine is released in the brain. This release of dopamine can be very addictive. When multitaskers and heavy media consumers don’t have access to information or their attentions engaged, they feel bored.

This stimulation sensitive part of the brain is different from that which uses old information to understand new problems. It becomes increasingly difficult to turn off the sensational part of the brain when you need to focus and decide about long term goals. For example, in our ancestors these parts of the brain would trigger the differences between stimuli that hint at a snowstorm and how to stay warm during the storm.

That said, certain technology can help you with occupational tasks. Accessories for GPS and wireless cell phone accessories for example, can be used in this way. But when accessories for iPhone and other wireless cell phone accessories become attached to you, it can be difficult to do without them. The lesson: technological moderation is important.

The Switch to Smart Phones

Next week, AT&T; plans to change its service for smart phones, cutting prices from $30 per month for unlimited usage to $25 month for 2 gigabytes and $15 for 200 megabytes of data transference. Part of their reason for this switch is that few users, approximately 3%, account for 40% of the company’s entire data transference. AT&T; believes these few users bog down the entire network.

New York and San Francisco are two cities that suffer specifically from this problem. Many users complain about poor service. Accessories for iPhone are still expected to generate large revenue because as the phones are being used less for calling and more for data, they experience more general use. Today, AT&T; will also begin allowing new accessories for iPhone, namely, one called tethering for an extra $20 per month that makes an iPhone into a modem.

You can expect smart phones and wireless cell phone accessories to continue drifting towards this direction, as the internet, television, music, movies, and phone calls are used increasingly on the same device. AT&T; hopes that this new plan will also sway more people towards smart phone and data usage. For those of us who still just use our phones to talk and text, this is good news.
